on and off diet trends make you body weak, disturbnig your metabolism and snatching away your natural glow ….hair fall is even a side effect of this.
- Most of the fad diets are popularly termed as “yo-yo” diets that give you a short term solution to quick weight loss but do not guarantee any long term sustenance of the weight loss. Besides it deprives body of nutrition resulting in low blood pressure, reduced energy and fatigue. If you continue to under nourish your body with an unbalanced diet your metabolism also starts to slow down over time.
The latest trend amongst most diet is a low carbohydrate and high protein diet. The biggest drawback of this diet consuming a diet rich in protein deprives the body of calcium resulting in osteoporosis, especially women in their early to mid thirties. This diet also has a long term effect on regular functioning of the kidney.
Another extremely interesting paradox that every fad diet follower suffers is from reduced metabolic rate due to the poor dietary intake. Being on a constant diet over a period of time slows down your metabolic rate. This is your body’s natural phenomenon of dealing with lack of enough nutrition and food. The body goes into the starvation mode where all the food that is consumed is stored in the body as fat thus increasing your tendency to put on weight even when you are on the fad diet.
These diets have been around for decades and are extremely dated. They have gained popularity overtime is due to a few celebrities who have once in a while taken to extreme measures to lose weight for an upcoming movie. But then again have been criticized heavily in media for doing so. Their excuse is that they needed to do because they get paid for looking a certain way. Then why is it that most of us get carried away and follow them blindly even after knowing the side effects of such fad diets.
LONG TERM DIETING
Many times when people think about dieting, they only thing about lowering one major item. Whether you cut the calories or the carbs or the saturated fat, that’s mainly the part you pay attention to. When you lower your caloric intake, you also drop your intake of essential vitamins and minerals which can lead to a constant state of lethargy. Lack of energy and general sluggishness.
Diets create an oppressed feeling because you are inhibiting yourself constantly. This leads to stress and irritability. Even if results are where you want them to be there is the risk of wanting more. “if I lost 15 lbs on 500 calories, imagine how much I would lose if I could get down to 300?” you tell yourself. Long term dieting to Anorexia is a very thin line and many don’t realize that they’ve crossed it until it’s too late.
Nutrient deficiencies, stress, and eating disorders can all lead to a laundry list of complications. High blood pressure and heart problems are high on that list.
With celebrities like Jessica Alba, Katy Perry and the entire Kardashian clan promoting shapewear, the industry is expected to make an estimated $680 million this year, and the newly popular waist trainers are a huge part of that. But a recent spate of articles reveals that not only are the corset-like items not very effective, they also come with some scary side effects. Below, a list of potential problem caused by overwearing the garment:
Ominous tingling: Also known as meralgia paresthetica, the condition is caused “when there is too much pressure on nerves that run through the groin,” and has been previously associated with pregnancy or rapid weight gain.
Digestion issues: Wearing a waist trainer squeezes your internal organs, which can “push acid from the stomach into the esophagus.” Those who already have reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome or urinary incontinence are especially prone.
Shallow breathing: Because many versions compress the lungs, it’s not uncommon to experience shortness of breath while wearing a waist trainer. This could be especially problematic if you’re running around all day.
While some of these issues may only afflict to serious abusers of the garment, anyone should still proceed with caution. After all, we got rid of corsets for a reason, didn’t we? And, as many doctors will attest, the most effective “waist training” happens at the gym, with the added benefit of being great for your mental health, too.
